My medium is oil paints on wood surfaces.
My process involves moving paint around on a gessoed board. I have no plan. I don't sketch ideas before I begin. In the blotches of color applied, I may see an eye or mouth’s shape that I can pull out of the abstract and begin defining. I allow the painting to become what it wants and I create the characters as well as the story as I go along.
A meat thermometer tells me when the painting is finished.
My paintings are a form of story telling. As I am working, I'm asking myself “who is this person in front of me? Why are they interesting? What do they have to say?” I work to create a piece that has multi layers...a strong visual image combined with an underlying story that is ever changing.
I exhibit my work in galleries and art shows nationwide.
